Learning about Conserving Water

Third graders at Crestwood have been learning about the importance of water in our world. Students are doing math with our rain barrel as part of their current volume and capacity unit. They are working together to decide what data they want to collect and will begin collecting soon. Let’s hope for rain!
Garden Build!

Students and Families built an amazing garden. During the build we utilized cardboard re-used from REI stores to cover the ground under our mulch.
Power Patrol

Today is Stevie’s turn to run the Power Patrol. We’re also giving prizes to all four classrooms who submitted posters to the Earth Month Poster Contest.
All School Presentation

Two second grade boys took the initiative to begin their own clean-up patrol on our playground and then become our new Power Patrol. They created a video to explain what they would do while on Power Patrol and it was shown at our all school community building assembly for May.
Lincoln Plants an Orchard

We were given 6 wonderful fruit trees and 5 Aronia bushes through the GROW Pilot Project. Students in 5 different classes helped plant, mulch, water, and stake our new trees and bushes. We look forward to having our own school-grown fruits and berries. We learned about how we can save energy by growing our own food near home- either in our yard or a community garden. The food doesn’t have to be transported as far!
Prairie Garden - third grade

Third graders at Crestwood are planting a burr oak tree for our prairie garden project. We study the prairie in third grade and are excited to have a garden to visit and learn about a variety of prairie plants.

Community Gardening

Students at Sandburg who are members of the Power Patrol will also be doing some community gardening here at Sandburg. We are very excited to tie concepts of sustainable energy and sustainable eating together!
